Professor Chun will be presenting "Superdiversity or monological uniformity? Linguistic landscapes in Los Angeles, London, and Boston" in the department conference room.

Dr. Christian Chun addresses two recent research areas in sociolinguistics: superdiversity and linguistic landscapes. In presenting his ongoing research for his next book with Routledge, "A World without Capitalism? Everyday Discourses and Imaginaries", he draws upon the theoretical and methodological frameworks of visual social semiotics (Kress & van Leeuwen, 2006), discourses in place (Scollon & Scollon, 2003, 2004), and urban space (Harvey, 1989, Lefebvre, 1991, 1996) in examining the extent to which the notion of superdiversity (e.g., Blommaert & Rampton, 2016; Vertovec, 2007) is actually realized in the material linguistic landscapes of three cities.
